Dating Men Online – How Limjococo Overcame Her Fear of Dating Men by Using Social Media

Dating men of any age brings its own set of unique challenges: in high school there are clumsy, confused adolescents, lost for words, who just want to have as many sexual partners as they can afford to have. In college men are often interested in having as many sex partners as possible, without seeming awkward. But the pressures of professional life, family and peer pressure can cause all too many young men to lose sight of their priorities and end up with a series of relationship failures. In their thirties, men want to be just as sexually active as they were in their twenties, but with far less regard for the feelings and desires of the women involved.

While some dating men take advantage of mature dating customs, many others are simply victims of circumstance. Limjoco is one such young man. Limjoco was just fifteen when he met his current girlfriend. He had been out of school for only a short time, yet his friends had encouraged him to sign up for an online dating account because he was convinced it would be safe. One thing led to another, and Limjoco ended up in a relationship with an eighteen-year-old woman who was already planning a family.

The story that follows shows how Limjoco’s lack of dating experience has led him on a wild and sometimes lonely ride through the dating world. The first few months of his relationship with the woman were particularly difficult for him. He tried to talk to her about his problems, but she always deflected the conversation, looking for someone to talk to who would listen and care-about him.

He soon came to realise that one of the key aspects of dating online was to develop some pickup lines. Limjoco, being new to online dating, believed that his chosen quote was what would get her to notice him. The quote he posted on his dating web site and in emails was meant to be a simple and funny complement to one of her poems.

It was not long before he realised his mistake. The women in his life did not immediately take him for granted. Rather, they regarded him as their peer, someone who knew how to deal with real women, who had a better idea of how to attract them through smart conversation and witty pickup lines. They did not automatically assume that since he was young and full of testosterone that he was macho and straight. He even went so far as to post an Instagram photo of him reclining with a bottle of tequila in one arm, captioned “My life is like a limo – I do parties in my limo!”

However, after about a month and a half on the dating app, Limjoco realized that it was more of a hassle than he had bargained for. He realised that the attention and consideration that he had expected from dating app women proved to be less prevalent. On top of this, many of the women he met on the dating app were either desperate for a male companion or completely oblivious of how to date men online using a social media platform. One of his former girlfriends even seemed to confuse his Instagram photos with those of her ex-boyfriends!

This was the turning point. Limjoco resolved to make an improvement and not repeat past mistakes. He changed his pick up lines, took care to read his messages and sought out the company of others in the hopes that he would realize that there were other things going on in his life that he was forgetting. Inevitably, his confidence started to sag and he realized that there were limits to the dating app experience and that he had to stop putting so much focus on it.

Limjoco acknowledges that the dating app model is actually pretty antiquated and he doesn’t think it will be a very long time before it is replaced by more contemporary approaches. However, he says that he has enjoyed the relative stability and ease of communication that goes along with it. It was also a way for him to get to know others and he says that it made him a better person because you have to meet people to get to know them. For some men, this may not be a problem but for others such as Limjoco, it is quite a priority. “I had been carrying my anger about my relationship problems and I was holding it inside for a long time. I wasn’t ready to face anyone so I signed up on the dating app and it helped me learn to be more open.”
